True acts of courage often unfold far from the spotlight, and one such moment took place behind the scenes of the 1995 blockbuster Karan Arjun. During an interview with the YouTube channel Friday Talkies, veteran choreographer Chinni Prakash recounted an unforgettable incident that revealed the gallantry of Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan — not as movie heroes, but as real-life protectors.

Chinni fondly recalled the filming of the energetic track “Bhangra Paale” in the rustic landscapes of Rajasthan. The song held a special place in Bollywood history, as it brought together two rising stars of that era, both destined for superstardom. Chinni shared that Salman had already built a rapport with him, having worked together on one of the actor’s early projects, while Shah Rukh was still relatively new to their circle. Yet, what followed on that set would bring the two actors together in an unexpected and powerful way.

During one of the shooting days, the atmosphere shifted when a local villager began misbehaving with the women in the crew. Witnessing the harassment, Salman reportedly lost his temper, while Shah Rukh, without hesitation, grabbed wooden sticks and charged to defend the female team members. The situation quickly escalated into a heated confrontation, but the two stars stood their ground until order was restored. Along with Chinni, they ensured the women’s safety by escorting them in a van back to their hotel.

“During the shoot, one of the villagers started teasing girls on the set. Salman got very angry. Shah Rukh picked up lathis and started beating them. A big fight started..." he reminisced.

Released on January 13, 1995, Karan Arjun became an instant sensation, earning widespread acclaim and amassing around ₹450 million at the box office. It was hailed as an “all-time blockbuster,” ranking second only to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge that year and securing its place among the decade’s top earners.

Although Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan went on to appear in several films together afterward, Karan Arjun remained their most iconic collaboration as co-leads. Beyond its story of reincarnated brothers avenging their father’s murder, the film now carries an off-screen legend — one that immortalizes its heroes not just for their performances, but for their genuine bravery and instinct to protect.
