Silchar : Hundreds of workers of Arcuttipore and Chappanhall Tea Estates in Cachar district launched an indefinite strike on Friday, locking the gates of the gardens in protest against non-payment of wages and festival bonuses.
The workers said the management had repeatedly failed to clear their dues despite assurances, pushing them into financial hardship.
According to the workers, the garden authorities had earlier promised to pay all outstanding wages before Chhath Puja, but the commitment was not honoured. “We can forego the bonus, but stopping our wages is inhuman,” an union representative said.
